Preview Copy of You Are Home
I received my advance copy of You Are Home a few days ago, and I couldn’t be more excited. When the package was dropped off, I had no idea what it was. As usual, my wonderfully well-behaved dogs were barking their heads off that someone had dared knock at our door. (They really do love the sounds of their own voices.) When I’d finally convinced Cary and Anni that we were not under siege and that the FedEx person was not planning some elaborate attack on our household, I finally got to look at the address. Chronicle Books in San Francisco!
You Are Home is so incredibly close to my heart. It’s based on personal experience, and it’s the book I wish I’d had, not only when my house burned down as a kid, but throughout much of my childhood and teenage years. The feeling of being “at home” is not one that comes easily to everyone. A person can have a home and even be in their home, yet still not feel at home. I hope this book will lend its readers some sense of “at home-ness.”
I was so incredibly fortunate to have an amazing experience working with everyone on this book. It has been a true joy watching Andrés Landázabal’s awe-inspiring paintings come to life and collaborating with Naomi Kirsten and the whole Chronicle team. I think I’m the luckiest debut creator out there!
